For the last couple of years, the team at Hi-Tech Packaging has attended the annual WasteMinz conference — an event that brings together some of the brightest and best minds from across New Zealand’s waste sector and beyond!
This year, we’re committed to attending again, with hopes of learning more — and more importantly, taking action. So we thought we’d share our experience so far and a few key things we’ve learned from being part of these events.
1. If you’re in the waste sector (in any shape or form), it’s worth going.
It’s rare to find an event that brings such a diverse group of people into one room — all focused on the challenges and opportunities in waste. While there are plenty of individual events out there, this one brings together independent consultants, manufacturers, suppliers, regulators, government bodies, community groups, innovators, and passionate individuals under one roof. That alone makes it worthwhile.
2. Meaningful change requires collaboration.
As we touched on above, progress in the waste sector doesn’t happen in silos. Real change comes from getting the right people around the table — and the WasteMinz conference is a great place to start those important conversations. It gives you the chance to listen, learn, and connect with others who are just as invested in making a difference.
3. It’s a great opportunity to grow your network.
This probably goes without saying — but when you attend events like this with a mindset to collaborate and learn, you naturally build your network. And that’s important. While the big issues won’t be solved in just a few days, what you will walk away with is a trusted network of people you can reach out to when opportunities or challenges arise in the future.
4. It’s genuinely motivating.
The WasteMinz team does a fantastic job of curating a meaningful event. From opening speakers to case studies, workshops, exhibitor stands, networking drinks, the awards night, and closing ceremony — it’s always well thought out and inspiring.
We leave feeling motivated and ready to take action — which, we believe, is the ultimate goal of the event. So much so that we’ve even shared our experience with those who couldn’t make it
While we’re always busy and stretched for time, our experience has shown that if you’re only attending one waste-focused event — make it this one.
If you’re heading to the conference in June and spot us, come say hello! We’re always keen to connect, collaborate, and share ideas with others in the sector.
Until next time,
The Hi-Tech Packaging Team
